Using AI to Design Handmade Book Gifts

I use AI as a helpful tool to sketch and tidy design ideas, then hand-finish every book box, tumbler, mug and bookmark so each piece keeps a human touch.

Behind the scenes: why I use AI

I have lots of ideas but not always the time or the software skills to bring every sketch to life straight away. AI is a practical, time-saving helper that lets me visualise ideas and tidy up photos quickly — especially during a short break between work, family time and making. That initial assist speeds things up, but every item is still finished by hand to keep the warmth and personality you expect.

How AI helps (but doesn’t replace what I do)

  • Fast concepting: I can explore several visual directions quickly so I choose the one that feels right before I spend hours crafting the real thing.
  • Photo editing: AI helps me clean up and refine product photos so the final item looks inviting in listings and on social posts.
  • Time management: With a busy life, quick edits keep the creative momentum going without taking time away from family or hand-making the product.
  • Human final touch: I review and hand-polish every design — adjusting colours, textures and tiny details so nothing looks like it came straight from a machine.

Things AI can do to make lives easier

  • Generate several visual options from a simple idea so I can pick the best direction quickly.
  • Suggest colour palettes or typographic pairings that fit a mood you want.
  • Remove or soften busy backgrounds in photos to show the item clearly.
  • Create mockups to help me visualise how a design will sit on a mug, tumbler or bookmark.
  • Provide quick layout sketches that I can refine by hand, saving time on routine edits.

My simple workflow

  1. Start with an idea or mood I want to capture for a box, mug, tumbler or bookmark.
  2. Use AI to generate several visual options or to clean up a photo.
  3. Pick the option that feels closest to what I imagined and refine it by hand — tweaking colours, fonts, layout and small details until it feels personal.
  4. Make the item by hand and add the extra touches that make it cosy and gift-ready.

What this means for you

  • Quicker turnarounds on ideas and more variety to choose from when you ask for a particular vibe.
  • Every item still receives the same hands-on attention and finishing — the human craft remains central.
  • If you request a custom touch, I’ll use helpful tools to reach the result faster, then hand-finish to make it special.

Work smarter, not harder. Using AI for routine tasks gives me more time to perfect the handmade details you notice and love. The ideas may start with a helpful assist, but the warmth, personality and final finishing always come from me.
